摘要:
Applicators for applying products to a surface are described. Typically, the surfaces are keratinous surfaces and the applicators are capable of holding a charge of cosmetic composition in on some of its surfaces while also capable of repelling that cosmetic composition on other surfaces. With such dual capabilities, the cosmetic applicators are able to provide enhanced functionality to the applicator.
技术问题语段:
The patent text describes a problem in the use of cosmetic applicators, as they often have limitations in the functions they can perform. The invention aims to provide applicators that can manipulate compositions on surfaces and provide multiple functionalities without the need for multiple devices. The solution involves the use of repellent surfaces on the applicator that repel the composition and prevent it from being deposited on surfaces it is not intended for. These repellent surfaces also make it easier to release the composition onto the surface it is applied to. The patent text also describes the use of two or more surfaces with different surface properties, one of which is a transfer surface for holding the composition and the other a repellent surface for minimizing interaction with the composition.
技术功效语段:
The present invention provides cosmetic applicators that can perform multiple functions and provide the benefits of a cosmetic composition without the need for multiple devices. The applicators have repellent surfaces that can repel the cosmetic composition and prevent it from being deposited on surfaces where it is not needed. The repellent surfaces also make it easier to release the cosmetic composition onto the keratinous fiber. The applicators can be used for manipulating compositions on surfaces such as eyelashes, skin, and nails. The invention also provides methods of using the applicators for applying cosmetic compositions to the human integument.

CLAIMS
1. A device for applying a cosmetic composition to an integument, comprising an applicator element comprising two or more surfaces having different surface properties, wherein at least one surface is a transfer surface adapted to hold a charge of said cosmetic composition and transfer it to said integument, and at least one surface is a repellent surface adapted to minimize interaction of said composition with said repellent surface.
2. The device according to claim 1, wherein said composition is aqueous.
3. The device according to claim 1, wherein said composition is non-aqueous.
4. The device according to claim 3, wherein said composition is oily.
5. The device according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein said transfer surface is hydrophilic and said repellant surface is hydrophobic.
6. The device according to any one of claims 1-4, wherein said transfer surface is hydrophobic and said repellant surface is hydrophilic.
7. The device according to any one of claims 1-6, wherein said transfer surface has a contact angle with water of less than 75° ( e.g ., less than 70°, less than 65°, less than 60°, etc.) and said repellent surface has a contact angle with water of greater than 80° (e.g., greater than 100°, greater than 110°, greater than 120°, etc.).
8. The device according to any one of claims 1-7, wherein the difference in contact angles with water between the repellent surfaces and the transfer surface is greater than 10° (e.g., greater than 20°, greater than 30°, greater than 40°, greater than 50°, etc.).
9. A device (e.g., an applicator, brush, etc.) for manipulating (e.g., moving, styling, orienting, applying, removing, cleaning, etc.) a composition (e.g., a cosmetic composition such as mascara or nail polish) on a surface, wherein said device comprises one or more repellent surfaces adapted to minimize the interaction of said composition with said repellent surface.
10. The device according to claim 9, wherein said composition is aqueous.
11. The device according to claim 9, wherein said composition is non-aqueous (e.g., oil based such as silicone oil based).
12. The device according to any one of claims 9-11, wherein said transfer surface is hydrophilic and said repellant surface is hydrophobic.
13. The device according to any one of claims 9-11, wherein said transfer surface is hydrophobic and said repellant surface is hydrophilic.
14. The device according to any one of claims 9-13 , wherein said transfer surface has a contact angle with water of less than 75° (e.g., less than 70°, less than 65°, less than 60°, etc.) and said repellent surface has a contact angle with water of greater than 80° (e.g., greater than 100°
