摘要:
The hardness of the outer layer of chipboard with fibre top layer as described in the parent Specification is varied by varying the amount of water in the fibre layer before the single pressing operation. Less than 30% water gives a soft outer layer while for very hard outer layers, a water content of up to 80% may be used. Further hardening may be made by treating the outer layer with glue or oil.

WHAT WE CLAIM IS:-
1 A manufacturing method according to Claim 1 of Patent Application 22211/61 (Patent No 948,511) for producing chipboard with a fibre top layer composed of alternate fibre and chip layers which are pressed into board by one single pressing operation, in which one or both outer surfaces of the core part formed of chips is covered by dry, half-dry or by a moist fibre layer, depending on how hard and compact the top surface is to be for the final product, the board material thus formed being pressed into board by one pressing operation using heat and glue.
2 A method according to Claim 1 in which the top of the final board material immediately before it is pressed is moistened with water and/or glue in order to improve the smoothness and evenness in colour of the final board surface.
3 A method according to Claim 1 or Claim 2 in which the board after pressing has one or both of its surfaces hardened by oil.
4 A chip-board with a fibre top layer manufactured in accordance with the method claimed in any one preceding claim.
