摘要:
An apparatus, system and method for additive manufacturing. The apparatus, system and method include at least a print bed having thereon powdered print material; a dispersing head suitable to disperse one or more heat-actuated agents onto the powdered print material as indicated by a print plan; a broadband infrared energy source suitable to pass over the print bed so as to actuate the dispersed agent; and a heat energy filter interfaced to the broadband energy source so as to filter the actuating energy to one or a range of wavelengths of the infrared energy source that is less than the available broadband.
技术问题语段:
However, the known art of HSS suffers from several significant drawbacks.|Chief among these is that the use of HSS is typically highly limited for print materials other than polyamides.|This is the case due in large measure to the use of a broadband IR lamp that does not allow for the delivery of heat uniquely at given wavelengths, which specific wavelengths might allow for the targeted printing of various other materials responsive to those targeted wavelengths.|That is, a broadband IR spectrum risks undesired activation of areas of a pattern which may be responsive to numerous frequencies across the IR spectrum, and risks a failure to deliver sufficient targeted heat at wavelengths necessary to activate certain types of print material, such as without "burning" aspects of a print pattern.|Moreover, some polymers absorb to much of the IR spectrum, such that difference in the absorption of energy in the IR ink jetted area (i.e., the print build) and the non-jetted area, i.e., the powder bed or supporting areas, is not a sufficient difference to differentially melt or heat the print build.|Consequently, adverse growth of the part via melting of the supports, or without raising the support areas to a temperature that solidifies the support material area, may cause malformation, and further causes growth in unused particle size, thereby limiting the number of times that a powder can be recycled.
权利要求:
1. An apparatus for additive manufacturing, comprising: a print bed having thereon powdered print material; a dispersing head suitable to disperse one or more heat-actuated agents onto the powdered print material as indicated by a print plan; a broadband infrared energy source suitable to pass over the print bed so as to actuate the dispersed agent; and a heat energy filter interfaced to the broadband energy source so as to filter the actuating energy to one or a range of wavelengths of the infrared energy source that is less than the available broadband.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the filter is automated.
3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the automated filtering corresponds to a type of the powdered print material.
4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the heat energy filter comprises a first filter in a plurality of stacked filters.
5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the plurality of stack filters comprises filters actuated by electromagnetic energy.
