An article of footwear (100), comprising: an upper (102) and a sole structure (110) joined at least at a bite line (125) of the article of footwear (100); a tubular structure (140) including a first end (142), a second end (144), and an intermediate portion (146) disposed between the first end (142) and the second end (144); the tubular structure (140) forming a tunnel (141) extending through the tubular structure (140) from the first end (142) to the second end (144), wherein the intermediate portion (146) of the tubular structure (140) includes a surface with an opening (150), the opening (150) extending to the tunnel (141); a first tensile strand (160) extending through the tunnel (141) of the tubular structure (140); a second tensile strand (180) having a first portion attached to an attachment region of the article of footwear (100); the second tensile strand (100) also having a second portion engaged with the first tensile strand (160) proximate the opening (150); characterized in that the intermediate portion (146) is disposed adjacent the bite line (125) of the article of footwear (100).
2. The article of footwear (100) according to claim 1, wherein the first tensile strand (160) extends out of the opening (150) and engages the second tensile strand (180) externally to the tunnel (141).
3. The article of footwear (100) according to claim 1, wherein the second tensile strand (180) extends into the opening (150) and engages the first tensile strand (160) within the tunnel (141).
4. The article of footwear (100) as in any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the intermediate portion (146) includes a tab portion (200) attached to the article of footwear proximate the bite line (125).
5. The article of footwear (100) as in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the first end (142) of a tunnel structure (141) and the second end (144) of the tunnel structure have openings (150).
6. The article of footwear (100) as in any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the intermediate portion (146) includes two or more openings (150).
7. The article of footwear (100) according to claim 1, wherein the intermediate portion (146) includes a plurality of openings (150), and wherein a spacing between the plurality of openings (150) is regular.
8. The article of footwear (100) according to claim 1, wherein the intermediate portion (146) includes a plurality of openings (150) and wherein a spacing between the plurality of openings (150) is irregular.
9. The article of footwear (100) as in any of claims 1 to 8, wherein two or more tensile strands (160) pass through the tunnel (141).
