A method of manufacturing a wearable article, comprising: performing a scan of a body part of a user to obtain physical characteristics of the body part; creating a data file based on the scan, the data file including a three-dimensional design of the wearable article for the user based on the physical characteristics obtained from the scan; and forming the wearable article for the user from the design file using a rapid manufacturing technique.
2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the wearable article is one of a watchband, a hockey goalie mask, a football helmet, jewelry, a chest protector, a face mask, an article of apparel, eyeglasses, and an article of footwear.
3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the rapid manufacturing technique is one of laser sintering, solid deposition modeling, and stereo lithography.
4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the data file is a computer aided design file.
5. The method according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the rapid manufacturing technique is a rapid manufacturing additive fabrication technique.
6. The method according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the forming step includes fusing powders or particles of plastic, metal, or ceramic together using laser energy to form the wearable article.
7. The method according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the wearable article is a shin guard, and wherein the performing step includes scanning a lower leg of the user.
8. A shin guard made by the method of claim 7.
9. A watchband made by the method of claim 1.
10. A hockey goalie mask made by the method of claim 1.
11. A football helmet made by the method of claim 1.
12. A chest protector made by the method of claim 1.
13. A face mask made by the method of claim 1.
14. An article of apparel made by the method of claim 1.
