CLAIMS
1. Abed base with a storage system comprising:
a structural framework defining the bed base;
an internal storage space defined by the internal dimensions of the
structural framework, wherein the internal storage space is accessible from the
exterior through at least one opening on at least one side or end of the bed base,
a fabric cover for substantially enclosing the internal storage space,
the fabric cover comprising at least one flexible fabric panel covering an
opening or openings, wherein the or each flexible fabric panel is moveable or
liftable between a closed position in which the flexible fabric panel substantially
covers its respective opening or openings, and an open position in which the
internal storage space is accessible from the exterior through its respective
opening or openings; and
wherein the or each flexible fabric panel comprises at least one weighted
element allowing the flexible fabric panel to be held or secured under gravity in
the open position or in the closed position.
2. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the fabric
cover further comprises a fixed portion or portions securable or secured to the
structural framework of the bed base.
3. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein
when the or each flexible fabric panel is in an open position, the at least one
weighted element prevents the or each flexible fabric panel from returning or
falling back to the closed position, and when the or each flexible fabric panel is
in a closed position, the at least one weighted element holds the or each flexible
fabric panel taut.
4. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3
wherein the or each weighted element comprises at least one weighted bearing.
5. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3
wherein the or each weighted element comprises granular material integral or in
pockets provided in the flexible fabric panel.
6. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3
wherein the or each weighted element comprises a single rod or multiple rods.
7. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 6 wherein the or each
weighted element is an elongate rod provided at or toward the lower horizontal
edge of the flexible fabric panel.
8. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7
further comprising at least one fastening arrangement that is operable to secure
the or each flexible fabric panel in the closed position.
9. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 8 wherein the at least
one fastening arrangement comprises one or more fasteners, each fastener
comprising a pair of corresponding or complementary elements.
10. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 9 wherein the structural
framework of the bed base comprises four corner legs, and wherein each corner
leg comprises at least one vertical recessed surface or portion for receiving a
respective horizontal edge portion of the one or more flexible fabric panels.
11. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 10 wherein a first
element of the or each fastener is provided on the or each flexible fabric panel
and a second element of the or each fastener is provided on the structural
framework of the bed base.
12. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 10 or claim 11 wherein a
second element of the or each fastener is located in the or each vertical recessed
surface or portion of a respective corner leg.
13. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 12 wherein the second
element of the or each fastener is inset or otherwise flush with the surface of the
or each vertical recessed surface or portion of the respective corner leg.
14. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 9 to 13
wherein the or each fastener provides for a magnetic coupling between the pair
of corresponding or complementary elements.
15. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 14 wherein a first
element of the or each fastener is a metallic coupling element and a second
element of the or each fastener is a corresponding or complementary magnetic
coupling element.
16. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 14 wherein a first
element of the or each fastener is a magnetic coupling element and a second
element of the or each fastener is a corresponding or complementary magnetic
coupling element.
17. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 10 wherein a first
element of the or each fastener is located at or toward an edge of the or each
flexible fabric panel, and a second element of the or each fastener is located at or
towards a lower end of each corer leg, wherein the first and second elements of
the fastener are aligned to form a magnetic coupling when the flexible fabric
panel is in the closed position.
18. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 11 to 17
wherein the first element of the or each fastener is provided on the at least one
weighted element.
19. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 7 comprises at least one
fastening arrangement comprising one or more fasteners, each fastener
comprising a first magnetic coupling element located at or toward each end of
the elongate rod, and a complementary second magnetic coupling element
located on the structural framework of the bed base, wherein the first and second
magnetic coupling elements are operable to secure the or each flexible fabric
panel in the closed position.
20. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 19 wherein the or each
first magnetic coupling element is in the form of a metallic band extending about
the periphery of the elongate rod at or toward each end of the elongate rod, or a
metallic end cap fixed of secured at or toward each end of the elongate rod.
21. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in claim 20 wherein the or each
first magnetic coupling element is concealed within the or each flexible fabric
panel, or alternatively wherein the or each first magnetic coupling element
extends or protrudes beyond a respective edge of the or each flexible fabric
panel such that it is at least partially exposed.
22. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 8 to 21
wherein the at least one weighted element and/or the at least one fastening
arrangement are operable to hold or secure a respective flexible fabric panel
such that it is substantially flush with its surrounding portion of the fabric cover
when the flexible fabric panel is in the closed position.
23. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of claims 8 to 13
wherein the or each fastening arrangement comprises any one or more of the
following: zips, press studs, and/or strips of hook and loop fastener.
24. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of the preceding
claims wherein the at least one opening on at least one side of the bed base is
defined between the foot and head of the bed base.
25. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of the preceding
claims wherein the at least one opening on at least one end of the bed base is
defined between the two feet of the bed base.
26. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of the preceding
claims wherein the at least one opening on at least one side of the bed base has
no floor-engaging structural or support elements intermediate of the foot and
head of the bed, along each side periphery of the bed.
27. The bed base with a storage system as claimed in any one of the preceding
claims wherein the internal space or storage cavity is adjacent the underlying
floor surface.
