摘要:
The present invention relates to a light emitting diode (LED) lighting device (10). The device comprises a light guide plate (12), a plurality of LEDs (14) for emitting light into the light guide plate, a plurality of out-coupling structures (20) adapted to extract light from the light guide plate, and first and second electrodes (22, 24) connected to the LEDs. The first electrode is arranged at one side (28) of the light guide plate and the second electrode is arranged at the other side (30) of the light guide plate. Such a lighting device may have a reduced thickness.

CLAIMS:
1. A light emitting diode (LED) lighting device (10), comprising: a light guide plate (12), a plurality of LEDs (14) for emitting light into the light guide plate, a plurality of out-coupling structures (20) adapted to extract light from the light guide plate, and first and second electrodes (22, 24) connected to the LEDs, wherein the first electrode is arranged at one side (28) of the light guide plate and the second electrode is arranged at the other side (30) of the light guide plate.
2. A device according to claim 1, wherein the LEDs are arranged in the plane of the light guide plate.
3. A device according to claim 2, wherein the LEDs are accommodated in holes arranged in the light guide plate.
4. A device according to claim 1, wherein the out-coupling structures are arranged in the plane of the light guide plate.
5. A device according to claim 1, wherein at least one electrode is unstructured.
6. A device according to claim 1, wherein at least one electrode is structured.
7. A device according to claim 6, wherein the structured electrode comprises optically transparent areas (36) at the positions where light is to be extracted from the light guide plate by means of the out-coupling structures.
8. A device according to claim 1, wherein the LEDs or series of LEDs are connected in parallel.
9. A device according to claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the LEDs have top and bottom contacts (32, 34) for connecting to respective electrodes.
